The first place I stumbled on in my 99shoreditch travels was Bel-Air food, which has just popped up around the corner from Clifton Street. Easily spotted with its vibrant yellow and white stripes, it is channelling its inner LA and bursting with healthy ‘Feel Good Fast Food’.
For
anyone who is partial to a bag of salty snacks and a Twirl for lunch, do not be
put off. Their green salad, full of broccoli, avocado and soya
beans, was both healthy and tasty. Plus, it turns out that being low
in salt, carbs and free from refined sugar really does keep you
fuller and more energetic for longer.
Breakfast
at Bel-Air starts from 8am so you can grab a breakfast shot, porridge or
homemade granola on the way to your desk. If by Thursday morning you are a
little jaded from the night before their ‘Healthy Hangover Hash’ might be a
better option.
The lunch menu is full of choice, but still with an absolute emphasis
on natural ingredients and fresh produce – their crab cakes with pak
choi and pickled daikon salad is next on the list to try.
The
final stroke of genius from these guys is their fusion of food and technology.
They are developing an app so you can order food from your phone and
a Bel-Air concierge will have it ready when you get there, so no need to
queue.
All of
this has to bring a bit of LA sunshine to your Shoreditch day, whatever the
weather.
