Tokyobike is a small, independent bike company founded
in 2002 in, yes, Toyko. It has travelled several thousand miles and now resides
in a lovely spot on Tabernacle Street.
Tokyobike is not for the MAMIL (Middle Aged Men In
Lycra) that clog up our roads at the weekend on their time off from their desks
in the city. These are slow bikes, designed for comfort over speed and about
the journey, not the destination.
They come in a range of great colours and even the
tool kits have this pleasing aesthetic, like something from
a kid’s pencil case. If you need footwear to pimp your new
ride, they also have a fitting partnership with New
Balance.
The whole shop inspires cool and calm, with even a
little blossom as a nod to Japan’s iconic sakura (cherry blossom) that
will just about still be in bloom in Tokyo.
Unlike a lot of offices in Shoreditch, 99 Clifton St
will boast 70 secure bike parking spaces - so if you fancy getting to
your desk in a dignified and leisurely fashion, take a short stroll to the
store.
